How to go viral on TikTok

04/01/22

Similar to Instagram’s Explore page, the TikTok For You Page (FYP) shows content based on what it believes will be relevant to the viewer.

TikTok’s algorithm considers the videos you’ve engaged with in the past, the type of content you’ve created, the accounts and hashtags you follow and your location and language preferences. What’s great about TikTok is that the For You Page is the first thing a user sees when they are on the app – creating a huge opportunity to reach an organic audience, grow your community and even go viral. A report on how TikTok’s algorithm works was also recently leaked, revealing that monetization and creator retention are considered.

Here are 6 tips to boost your chances of going viral on TikTok’s For You Page:

1. Participate in Trends

Trends are all over the For You Page so keep an eye out. Chances are, you won’t have to scroll down too far into your FYP before you come across a trend. The more that users engage with a certain trend, the more TikTok’s algorithm will amplify those videos that play into the trend. That’s why it’s important to stay up to date and participate in trends relevant to your brand.

2. Post at Peak Times

Finding the right times to post your content is another key piece to going viral on TikTok. The main goal is to post when the majority of your target audience is online. You can find when your audience is most active by switching your account to a Business Account on TikTok – which will provide you with analytics. 3. Use effective hashtags

Include relevant hashtags in all your posts. Hashtags in your video description help TikTok’s algorithm figure out who to push the video out to that will respond to your content. Avoid using generic hashtags like #ForYouPage and use hashtags that are relevant to your brand and niche instead. For example, if you’re posting a cooking tutorial, include #CookingTutorial or #LearnToCook in the description.

4. Stick to a niche and get creative

Sticking to a certain niche makes it easier to build an engaged community. The more your content shows up in a specific community, the easier it is to build an engaged and consistent following. Having a consistent core audience of supporters to engage with your videos can improve the chances of your videos getting on the FYP. Just make sure you are not 100% replicating what others are doing in your niche. Instead, bring in a unique and fresh perspective into the niche that reflects your brand or business.

5. Make use of TikTok’s tools

TikTok would not be what it is without its massive library of popular music, audio clips and fun video effects. The app provides everything you need to create fun and engaging content so make sure you are taking advantage of the tools within the app when creating your videos. Using trending sounds and filters will increase your chances of going viral since the algorithm will show your video to those who have interacted with those sounds and filters.

6. Collaborate with creators

Cross-promote your account and reach new audiences by collaborating with other TikTok creators!. Just make sure the creators you collaborate with share similar interests or are in the same niche!

7. Experiment

Last but not least, don’t be afraid to experiment. Test out posting videos with different sounds, video effects, video duration, and even content. Keep an eye on what performs best and make more similar content.
