March 2021: The latest Instagram updates and why you need to know about them

From “Recently Deleted” to Rooms and a Professional Dashboard, Instagram has released a slew of new features as of March 2021 to help users and content creators do more with the social media platform.

So, what are the latest updates? And should you use them? Here’s our take:

Recently Deleted feature on Instagram

Instagram recently introduced the “recently deleted” feature which enables users to restore feed posts that have been deleted within the past 30 days.

How does it work?

Firstly, make sure your Instagram app is up to date with the latest version. Then you can access your Recently Deleted folder by going to:

Settings> Account> Recently deleted

From here, you have the option to permanently delete or restore any posts (including, photos, videos, reels, IGTV videos and stories) that you deleted within the past 30 days.

Deleted Stories that are not archived will stay in your folder for up to 24 hours! Everything else will be deleted automatically after 30 days.

Instagram has enabled this feature to help prevent hackers from compromising your account and deleting posts you’ve shared.

When they released the new feature they said:

We know hackers sometimes delete content when they gain access to an account, and until now people had no way of easily getting their photos and videos back. Starting today, we will ask people to first verify that they are the rightful account holders when permanently deleting or restoring content from Recently Deleted.”

Instagram Rooms

On March 1st, the app unveiled Instagram Rooms that now allow up to 4 people to go live at once.

How does it work?

Swipe left and pick the Live camera option. Then, add your title and tap the Rooms icon to add your chosen guests. You’ll see people who have requested to go live with you, and you also search for a guest to add.

Using Instagram Rooms for business

Previously, you were only able to go live with one other person, so this is actually a bit of a game-changer for business users! This update allows you the opportunity to reach 3 more different audiences that you might have been unable to reach before as each guest in Instagram Rooms can notify their followers.

Video is a great way of telling your brand’s story in a quick and effective way, so utilize this new feature and reach a greater audience on social media!

Instagram Professional Dashboard

In February, the app introduced a single hub for analytics, tools and resources for businesses and creators. Many of these features and tools already existed within the platform, Instagram has simply centralized the location into one easily accessible spot.

Where can you find this tool? At the very top of your account profile, you will find access to your Professional Dashboard! This tool includes:

  • Performance tracking (get insights into how your account and posts are performing)
  • Grow your business tools (promotions, Instagram shopping etc)
  • Stay informed (tips on best practices from Instagram)
